Former President Donald Trump endorsed his former press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders for governor of Arkansas.
“Sarah is strong on Borders, tough on Crime, and fully supports the Second Amendment and our great law enforcement officers,” Trump said in a statement this week. “She loves our Military and Veterans — and her home state of Arkansas. Sarah will be a GREAT Governor, and she has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”
Sanders, who served as Trump’s press secretary from 2017 to 2019, posted a nearly eight-minute video to Twitter on Monday to announce her run for the governorship that was held by her father, Mike Huckabee, from 1996 to 2007.

“Today, our freedom and the rule of law are under attack,” Sanders said in the video message. “The radical Left’s solution is to impose government control and censorship from the top down. But their socialism and cancel culture will not heal America. … Everything we love about America is at stake.”
Trump’s endorsement is the first he has made since leaving the White House, and Sanders describes herself as a “trusted confidant of the president” on her campaign website.
Sanders enters a GOP primary field that already includes Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin and Attorney General Leslie Rutledge. The current governor, Republican Asa Hutchinson, is not permitted to run again due to term limits.
