Years after holding office, Barack Obama is still trying to disarm law-abiding Americans. He immediately took to social media to push gun-control while the victims of the Atlanta-area massage parlor shootings were still bleeding out.
Obama tweeted that the U.S has negligently avoided addressing the “epidemic of gun violence in America.”
He then called for “commonsense gun safety laws” and demanded “meaningful action that will save lives.”
Suspect Robert Aaron Long of Woodstock, GA was arrested 150 miles south of Atlanta. He did not resist arrest and took “full responsibility” for the attacks which killed eight people and injured another.
While the majority of victims were Asian-American, the police currently believe that the event was not racially motivated.
That didn’t stop Obama from reaching for the race card on Twitter though. He added that the “alarming rise in anti-Asian violence… must end.”
Long claims that he attacked the massage parlors because he viewed the locations as “an outlet” for his sexual temptations. He also indicated that at the time of his arrest, he was headed to Florida “to carry out additional shootings.”
Even as we’ve battled the pandemic, we’ve continued to neglect the longer-lasting epidemic of gun violence in America. Although the shooter’s motive is not yet clear, the identity of the victims underscores an alarming rise in anti-Asian violence that must end.
