Governor Greg Abbott of Texas announced a radical new strategy to deal with the crisis he’s facing along the southern border.
He made an announcement on Twitter, signaling his new initiative, Operation Lone Star.
Today Texas launched Operation Lone Star to respond to the border crisis.
It deploys Nat’l Guard + DPS Officers + air, ground, marine, & tactical border security assets to deny Mexican Cartels & smugglers the ability to move drugs & people into Texas.https://t.co/r68J2laDpH

Abbott explained that Operation Lone Star is going to “combat the smuggling of people and drugs into Texas,” an issue which was exacerbated due recent actions taken by the Biden administration.
He said that while “Texas supports legal immigration,” he will not allow the continuation of the “humanitarian crisis” caused by the “open border policies” of the Biden administration.
The year 2021 is projected to see 117,000 unaccompanied children reach the border and over 400,000 people have already crossed between October 2020 and February 2021.
